Supporting schools in the AI evolution
8th December 2025
The new project, FutureProof Education – Supporting schools in the AI evolution is to support education ministries in Ireland, Belgium, Germany, Luxembourg, and Sweden to design and implement strategies for the safe, ethical, and meaningful use of AI in schools, covering primary, secondary, and initial vocational education and training (VET).
The project is funded by the European Union through the Technical Support Instrument and managed by the European Commission’s Reform and Investment Taskforce. It officially launched with a kick-off meeting for Ireland, held in Collin’s Barrack’s Dublin on 17th November, 2025.
It brought together approximately 40 participants from across the education sector. Representatives from schools, management bodies, teacher unions, educations bodies and other stakeholders gathered to explore the project’s scope and share experiences and insights.

The Department of Education and Youth, Oide Technology in Education and the project partners in UNESCO provided an overview of the project, outlining its core objectives: to strengthen teaching and learning practices with AI, support school leadership and provide high quality professional learning resources to respond to the evolving needs of schools and the educational system.
A key feature of the day was a series of interactive table discussions, offering key stakeholders the opportunity to exchange insights and discuss the needs of schools. Participants highlighted a range of priorities, including teacher competency development, leadership support and system-level support for ongoing professional learning.
These conversations have provided a valuable context for the next phases of the project.
The meeting concluded with a feedback session where constructive suggestions for next steps and a summary of insights gathered on the day were shared.
Overall, the Dublin kick-off marked a highly engaging and meaningful start to this project, which the project partners will hope to build on for the next stage of this EU funded initiative.
