EU Ethical Guidance on AI in Schools Updated

24th March 2026

The EU has revised its ethical guidelines on AI use in schools.

The new document, Guidelines on the Ethical Use of Artificial Intelligence and Data in Teaching and Learning for Educators, aims to further support educators in making informed and ethical decisions when using AI and data in the classroom.

It also aims to help teachers build confidence in integrating AI tools while understanding potential risks and legal responsibilities and fostering responsible adoption among students.

The Guidelines reflect the significant rise in AI use in education, the AI Act, and the need for AI literacy, ethics, and critical thinking in teaching and learning environments.

The updated guidelines include:

  • Guiding questions and practical classroom scenarios
  • Core principles and legal context
  • Background resources
  • An updated glossary
