This course will help you to use the Digital Learning Framework to improve digital learning in your school regardless of your stage on this journey.

It will step you through the process of creating a Digital Learning Plan that will support the effective use of digital technologies across all aspects of teaching and learning.

This a shortened version of the original ‘Developing a Digital Learning Plan for your School’ course. You will be guided through the process of creating a plan but there are no required in-school activities or assignments.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course, you should be able to:

  • Develop a shared vision within your school for the embedding of digital technologies in teaching, learning, and assessment.
  • Use the Digital Learning Framework to assess how effectively digital technology is being used to improve teaching, learning, and assessment in your school.
  • Plan a series of actions to improve the embedding of digital technologies in your school to get better outcomes for your students.
  • Outline procedures for the ongoing monitoring and evaluation of your Digital Learning Plan.

Course Content

Module 1: Introduction to Digital Learning Planning

In this module, you will look at what digital learning looks like in the classroom and how a constructivist pedagogy which embeds digital technologies can offer new possibilities for learning, teaching and assessment. You will also be introduced to the Digital Learning Framework for Schools (DLF) and the Digital Learning Planning Guidelines (DL Planning Guidelines).

Module 2: Creating Your Vision for Digital Learning

In this module, you will look at some of the key considerations in establishing a team to lead the planning process and for creating your school’s vision for digital learning. You will learn how to conduct a workshop with colleagues to help you to create a vision statement for digital learning.

Module 3: Gathering Data

In this module, you will examine how to use the Digital Learning Framework to determine the focus of your Digital Learning Plan. You will look at how to gather and analyse relevant evidence to help make informed decisions to enhance digital learning practices in your school.

Module 4: Developing and Monitoring your Digital Learning Plan

In this module, you will look at how to set specific targets and determine actions that need to be taken to achieve them and improve digital learning practice in your school. You will also examine the key considerations for monitoring and evaluating the implementation of your DL Plan.

Requirements

Technical Requirements: A good broadband internet connection and a laptop, desktop pc or tablet (with the latest version of Chrome, Firefox or Safari installed).

Certificate

A course certificate is provided upon completion of this course.

You may be able to consider this course for Croke Park hours, subject to school management approval, particularly in relation to up to ten ‘Croke Park’ hours that may be allowed for potential individual/small group use (Circular 0042/2016 Primary and Circular 045/2016 Post Primary).
